In 1982, our Christmas tree spent the season in a playpen. That was to protect it from my younger brother, who had learned to walk and loved to grab anything and everything within his reach. In 2004, we theoretically should have had the same problem with Connery, but he was so compliant ("Please don't touch the Christmas tree, Connery." "OK!") that we didn't have to worry about it. Emerson is not going to cooperate in that way.
So the question is, what are we going to do with the Christmas tree this year? We don't have a playpen, and Emerson won't take direction. Knowing her, she'll try to climb it, a la our cat Bean, who took down the 12-foot tree we had in our front room in Prague. Those of you with toddlers, what's your plan? Or what worked for you in the past? Enquiring minds who do not want to pick up destroyed Christmas trees want to know.
