I'm going through one of those all-too-rare periods in which I want to get rid of things. Generally, I'm a terrible packrat, and my closets bear the brunt of my sentimentality. In the last week, however, we've sold some snow tires and donated some clothes to our local Community Closet, and I've made arrangements to hand down some of Emerson's things to the soon-to-be Rosen-baby coming to Alex and Kari.
Today I got to do one of my favorite things: Freecycle. A couple of days ago, I posted an offer for the queen-sized bed we've been using. (My parents are giving us a king-sized one for Christmas! Awesome!) I got tons of responses, offered it to the first woman who contacted me, and she picked it up this morning. I love that! She gets something she wants, and I don't have to store the thing. I know I could have a garage sale or put it in the classifieds or on Craigslist (and I do sometimes do that as well) but there is something immensely satisfying about just handing something over to a total stranger who needs it.
We've also scored some great stuff on Freecycle--the Harry Potter book seven audiobook, a practically new bedding set for Connery in a fetching blue-brown combination, a 500-pound Church Universal and Triumphant fireproof filing cabinet built to withstand Armageddon (not joking). That last one turned out to be less great than a total pain in the ass due to its immensity. Luckily, I posted it on Freecycle and somebody came and made it their problem.
Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm off to give away some more stuff before the urge subsides.
